Rabbi’s Opinions

What may be written on the dial — and what should not

From time to time, we receive requests from clients who wish to inscribe words from the Torah on their watch dial. Out of deep respect for the sanctity of these texts, we refrain from this entirely: words from the Torah are to be used exclusively within Torah scrolls, not on everyday objects such as watches or clothing.

When it comes to other sources — such as Pirkei Avot or verses from Tehillim — halachic opinions vary. For this reason, we offer you two possible ways to approach the question of what may or may not be written on the dial:

  1. Consult your personal Rabbi.

  2. Explore the opinions of several Orthodox Rabbis we have consulted on this topic. Their perspectives are presented below.

Please note:
The Rabbis are listed strictly in alphabetical order by last name. The sequence does not reflect seniority, authority, or anything else.
